Background to this car.
1939 was indeed the first year of production for the 8hp Austin featured here, featuring more up-to-date styling than
the outgoing models that it replaced. The engine was still a sidevalve unit however, of 900cc. Production of the
8hp continued through WW2 and afterwards, til 1947, by which time the Austin Motor Company had some
fresh designs to offer, no longer based on pre-war models. Approximately 56,000 were produced in all.
