Background to this car.
The Standard 8 and 10 were this company's rivals to the ever-popular Austin A30/A35, Ford Pop, and Morris Minor, and continue to be popular today. The "8" is powered by the 803cc four cylinder engine, a unit that went on to appear in enlarged form under the bonnet of the Triumph Herald, Spitfire, Bond Equipe and numerous "specials". This car features the four-speed floor-change gearbox. Spares support from the Standard Motor Club is excellent, and membership of this organisation is recommended to anyone buying one of these increasingly scarce, and appealing, little cars. With excellent under-bonnet accessibility, good reliability, and very usable interior space thanks to its four-door design, the Standard 8 is a great "classic" choice, whether for weekend rides out, or the daily commute.
